Introduction to colored pencil class.
5 weeks, two hours each.
February 19th 26th, March 5th, 12th, 19th

Although students are welcome to use supplies at the studio, students are required to bring their own set of colored pencils and sketchbook.
- Introduction to the history of the ” still life ” in the Golden Age of Art.
- Supplies and techniques demonstration.
- Preparing drawing surfaces and the transfer of original sketch.
- Sketching Composition and Values.
- Layering of color pencil technique.
- Utilizing powders and mineral spirits.
- Continuing the drawing of the still life set up with ongoing tips and medium tricks.
- Continuing drawing moving into the layering of darker colors over lighter colors.
- A short, informative group critique and introduction to personal stylized preferences.
- Continue to the finished piece.
- How to ” fix” and protect the finished art.
- Tips on matting and framing.
*** A color pencil blending and experimenting station will be available at all times and classes for experimenting and practicing with different surfaces of paper and various brands of pencils. These will be supplied. Copies of Colored Pencil Magazines will also be available for looking at other artists step by step techniques.
About the instructor.
John Danks is an accomplished artist residing in Bristol, Pa. John has studied art and excelled in the medium of colored pencil for over thirty years. He has exhibited his work from Newport, Rhode Island, Philadelphia and down to South Florida. John was published in Colored Pencil Magazine in 2015 in their yearly ” Hidden treasures ” issue.
John has conducted color pencil workshops in the Bensalem Senior Center for adults as well as children in their summer art class. John has also been a guest artist at the Bensalem High School, helping to add to their curriculum.
John has also taken his colored pencils to Saint Christopher’s Hospital for Children where he implemented his art cart five years ago and visit weekly as an artists ” Buddy ” to spread and lift the spirits of the patients.

Tickets to events/classes inside of our studio or on location are nonrefundable and can only be used as credit for future classes, events, or private parties by Penelope Fox Art Studio. Credit is for the price of the event and does not include any service charges from PayPal, Eventbrite or any other ticketing service. Credit expires three months after event date. Canceled classes/events inside of our studio or on location on the part of Penelope Fox Art Studio will be made up by rescheduling class(es) or credited (for prorated price of canceled class(es) only not including any service charges) to each student in the event that class cannot be rescheduled.
