Have you always had an interest in painting?
Do you love to get up-close and examine the brushwork of a truly inspiring piece of artwork?
Have you seen a beautiful site and long to capture it on canvas?
Teen and up (preteen will be considered upon request).
Bring in an image of a landscape that you love, you have taken with your camera, or chose one of ours and be guided through the steps to recreate your special spot on canvas! Students will be guided in class and gently critiqued to help improve skills. Working on a project outside of class will be recommended.
BREAKDOWN OF CLASS
Week 1: Find the image, create a reference and grid it out.
Week 2: Transfer image to the canvas with basic shapes and sharpie. Discuss color.
Week 3: Start underpainting
Week 4: Mix colors, store colors,
Week 5: work, crit, and discussion
Week 6: work, crit, and discussion
Necessary materials for first class to be supplied by students:
Cansons Can-va Paper pad 9″ x 12″ or a roll of old wallpaper
Grumbacher Academy Acrylics, Liquitex Basic Acrylics or Artists’ Loft (available at Michaels) (Please no flow formula acrylics)
Colors: Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Red (deep or medium), Cadmium Yellow (medium), Titanium White, Payne’s Grey, Burnt Umber, and Burnt Sienna
Brushes: Synthetic bristle for acrylic, 1/2 inch flat, 1 inch flat, 1/2 inch angle, #10 round, and #0 or #2 rigger (liner brush) Palette knife (Plastic set is great!) Masking Tape – 1/2 inch wide HB and 2B pencils and eraser.
